SUMMARY:Beyond Sound and Sight
DESCRIPTION:Friday 11 September at 5:30 PM\nBoardwalk Theatre \nAn emotive\, true story which beautifully encapsulates the troubles and triumphs of living in a silent world. \nEver wondered what it’s like to live a lifetime in isolation—no communication\, forced to learn in a language you can’t fully access? \nBeyond Sound and Sight: Perspectives of Deaf and Deafblind invites you into this world. Deaf artists Princess Nidera and Eddie Szczepanik\, joined by hearing cast members\, use storytelling and signed songs to share the highs and lows of growing up Deaf in a hearing world. \nThe story begins in the 1980s\, when Szczepanik was diagnosed with a serious eye condition\, and continues to today\, where Nidera—originally from the Philippines—navigates learning a new signed language and culture in Australia. \nStay after the show for a Q&A with the performers\, to further deepen your understanding of their experiences. \n“You will not see a show that will fill you with more warmth. This is theatre that nourishes the soul.” ★★★★★ Isolated Nation \nhttps://www.manpac.com.au/whats-on/beyond-sound-and-sight/
